Learn the foundations of Shiatsu.

The body in Shiatsu is viewed as an interconnected network of meridians, which are energy pathways.
These meridians carry Qi (vital energy) throughout the body—supporting physical health, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing.
When energy flows freely, we feel balanced, calm, and vital.
When energy is blocked or depleted, we may experience tension, fatigue, or discomfort.
A Shiatsu practitioner works on fully clothed clients. Gentle joint mobilisations, mindful acupressure and stretches along meridians help to:
• Restore energy flow
• Release stagnation
• Support the body’s natural healing ability

Shiatsu is a holistic practice that listens to the body and supports harmony and healing from within.
In the Shiatsu foundation course you will learn basic principles and techniques of this healing art. This will involve an introduction to the listening touch and how to apply acupressure.

We will also introduce you to the basics of Chinese medicine of Yin and Yang and the 5 Element Theory.

The training is very practical orientated where you will learn:
- Four bodywork routines which you can practise at home on family and friends
- Useful first aid acupressure points
- Qigong Shibashi, an 18 form gentle Qigong sequence that is considered a national health exercise in some countries
- Makko Ho meridian stretches
- Japanese Do-In which is a form of meridian tapping
There is no previous bodywork experience needed for this comprehensive beginners course. The Shiatsu foundation course can also offer massage therapists new techniques to enrich their existing practice. A certificate of attendance will be awarded on completion of the 4 days.
Times for all the four training days are 10 am to 5 pm. There is an hour lunch break in between. A kitchen is available to prepare some basic food. Students are encouraged to bring their own lunch and something to share if they like. Tea will be provided.
The Shiatsu schools premises are outside Skibbereen town in a beautiful location close to the sea.  Please bring comfortable clothing to wear and shoes or warm socks to wear inside.
